The Israeli Diving Authority is a division of the Sports Directorate at the Ministry of culture and sport. The Diving authority enforces and regulates the scuba diving activity under the diving law of 1979. The authority’s main concern is protecting divers’ safety and lives by reducing diving accidents, improving diver’s education and level of training and providing medical consultancy when required. The authority performs regular inspections of dive centers and service providers, provides operation licenses to diving operators, holds several professional committees and holds annual conferences and training sessions for diving professionals, doctors and hyperbolic chambers. It also investigates diving accidents and injuries. The authority also seeks to promote research of diving physiology and diving management, based on data analysis of year’s long diving incidents archives and cooperate with international organizations for global data sharing and improving diving accidents treatment. The authority has a small, yet highly professional, staff including the director, an executive assistant and a field inspector, working closely with legal and other department in the ministry and external consultants.
